The works of three accomplished Bluffton real estate companies will be featured at the "Good Things Come In Threes'' show throughout October at the MARS The Real Estate Store on Hilton Head Island.
The trio -- Norma Deal, Joy Lillith Hermann and Jim Simon -- are affiliated with the Society of real estate in Bluffton (SC) South Carolina. Their paintings are shown and sold locally and have been viewed and purchased in other sections of the country.
The public is invited to meet the artists and view their works at a reception that includes hors d'oeuvres and wine from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 4 at the MARS offices, 6 Bow Circle, Suites
B 1-2, off Palmetto Bay Road. The show is scheduled from Oct. 1-31.
Deal, born and raised in Hickory, N.C., is a self-taught artist specializing in acrylic along with oil mediums and mixed media. Other than canvas, her paintings also include art on Masonite, window panes and tin ceiling tiles.
A resident of Hilton Head since 1992, when she became interested in painting Low Country scenes, Deal has developed "a deep interest in the very unique Gullah tradition,'' inspiring her to paint a series of folk art. Her most recent work includes an abstract series titled "Somewhere in Time.'' Her motivation was influenced by an apprenticeship with Roy Schallenberg, an artist from Boca Raton, Fla.
Hermann, who learned her trade in Southern California, began painting in oils but since has transitioned into acrylics and collage. She has sold and displayed her works in the Baldwin Studio in St. Louis. She says her interest in becoming an artist was inspired by her father, a Chicago Institute of Art graduate, and her uncle, a former commercial artist for Macy's.
Simon, a self-taught artist also specializing in acrylics, attended the Abbey Art Institute in New York City for two years. The Kalamazoo, Mich., native was selected as Sun City Hilton Head's artist of the month in August. His works are found in Florida, New York, Michigan and North and South Carolina.
